Ms G Corbishley
Chair of Governors

I originally joined the governors as a parent governor when my son was at Newlaithes Junior School, now he is sitting his GCSE’s and I am Chair of Governors, so I have been invested in Newlaithes for 9 years.  I loved seeing my son flourish and grow during his time at Newlaithes and my decision to join the governing body was my way of giving something back to the local community. Currently on the standards committee, our role is to hold the school to account and ensure the curriculum is being taught to a high standard and all policies are being followed.    I have both a financial and business background, being one of the partners at Cumbrian Cottage Holidays, my work skills are often called upon when looking at school budgets and checking updated policies etc.

Miss K Lowther
Staff Governor

I was appointed onto the staff at Newlaithes Junior School in September 1996, having taught previously in a two-teacher school for four years. Although I have had experience of working across the whole of Key Stage 2, most of my teaching career has been spent in Year 6. In 2013, I was appointed as Deputy Head and at the same time took on the role as staff governor. I am currently Literacy subject leader as well as overseeing Continuing Professional Development within the school. I knew from an early age that teaching was my vocation and it has been a privilege to work alongside so many amazing children and staff and watch them grow and develop over the years. No two days are ever the same and this is one of the things that makes this job so magical.

Ms L Boyd
Co-Opt Governor

I retired as a full time teacher at Newlaithes Junior School in August 2022 although I continue to be very much involved in the life of the school as a governor and part time employee. I qualified as a teacher in 2001 with a PGCE from the University of Cumbria after gaining a degree through the Open University while working full time as an employee of The Royal Bank of Scotland, a career which spanned some twenty years. Whilst at Newlaithes Junior School, I was a teacher in Year 4 and Year 6, gained my SENCo Masters qualification and was a member of the Senior Leadership team.
