Our provision for Gifted and Talented children.
At Newlaithes Junior School we aim to provide a curriculum that is appropriate to the needs and abilities of all our children. This policy contributes to ensuring that we recognize and support the needs of those children in our school who have been identified as gifted / talented.
The term gifted refers to a child who shows exceptional ability in one or more academic subjects. Those who are gifted often have very well developed learning skills. The term talented refers to a child who excels in one or more practical fields. A child could be both gifted and talented in different areas of academic or practical learning.
Class teachers identify gifted and talented learners with guidance from the gifted and talented subject leader and the Headteacher.
We use a range of organisational strategies as children move through the school. Many children are involved in a range of activities outside school e.g sports clubs and music, and their achievements are celebrated in school assemblies.
In order to plan for and track the progress of gifted and talented pupils the school maintains a register of pupils, reviewed, updated and amended each term.
Governors receive reports on the progress of our gifted and talented children. The following are reports from subject leaders who oversee a number of gifted or talented children:
