School Governors
Ms L Boyd
Chair of Governors
I retired as a full time teacher at Newlaithes Junior School in August 2022 although I continue to be very much involved in the life of the school as a governor and part time employee. I qualified as a teacher in 2001 with a PGCE from the University of Cumbria after gaining a degree through the Open University while working full time as an employee of The Royal Bank of Scotland, a career which spanned some twenty years. Whilst at Newlaithes Junior School, I was a teacher in Year 4 and Year 6, gained my SENCo Masters qualification and was a member of the Senior Leadership team.
Miss K Lowther
Staff Governor
I was appointed onto the staff at Newlaithes Junior School in September 1996, having taught previously in a two-teacher school for four years. Although I have had experience of working across the whole of Key Stage 2, most of my teaching career has been spent in Year 6. In 2013, I was appointed as Deputy Head and at the same time took on the role as staff governor. I am currently Literacy subject leader as well as overseeing Continuing Professional Development within the school. I knew from an early age that teaching was my vocation and it has been a privilege to work alongside so many amazing children and staff and watch them grow and develop over the years. No two days are ever the same and this is one of the things that makes this job so magical.

Co-Opt Governor
I joined the Governors as a Parent Governor when my son was at Newlaithes Junior School. Initially I wanted to be involved in my son's education and support and help the school however I could.
As a result of my son attending Newlaithes, I know that the staff are a very dedicated team who always want to provide the best possible learning opportunities and experiences for the children. Although my son now attends Secondary School, I have remained on the Governing Body (now as a Co-opted Governor) in order to continue to support the school in its future development, however I can.
I am currently part of the Standards Committee due to my background in education. I taught at a local primary school for many years and now do Supply work in the area.

Parent Governor
I was interested in becoming part of the school governance team as I am invested in my son’s future. I believe in a good education which helps form adult future and beyond. I like being involved in how the school is invested in their pupil’s education and how/if we can help improve it further. I currently work within the Streetworks team at Cumberland Council and have 17 years of hospitality experience and run a second business reselling used items. I feel I have some skills that can be beneficial to this school.
Mrs Denise Oliver
Parent Governor
I am currently a Governor at the Infant School and work part time as a Sales Assistant. I wanted to become a Governor at the Junior school as I wanted to give back to the community. As a former pupil of the school myself, I have always loved the principals of the school and love the opportunity to help and support the school as much as possible.
